Introduction to SEO

What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process through which you can get your website designed or updated so well that it is appreciated in front of your customers as well as search engines which will directly help in improving your website rankings in search engines and getting a large customer base. In this competitive online world getting your website search engine optimized is a must.

What is Search Engine Rankings?

Search engines provide two types of results listings in response to the same user query:

1. Organic (natural or free) Listings.

2. Paid Listings.

In the figure below you can see while you are on google how you define which parts of results are showing Organic Listings and which parts are showing Paid Listings.

While we are working on SEO we will discuss only about Organic (natural or free) Listings.

Google Search Engine:

In Google’s organic results, relevancy to the user’s query is determined by over 200 factors, one of which is the PageRank for a given page. PageRank is the measure of the importance of a page based on the incoming links from other pages. In simple terms, each link from site A to a page on site B adds to site B’s PageRank.

Natural or Organic Results:

These search results are unpaid, unbiased listings that appear on the left hand side of results page. There ranking is determined based on Google Search Relevance Algorithm that determines which results best match the user’s query (please refer figure 1.1 below). To improve rankings in natural or organic search results we have to work on SEO or Search Engine Optimization.

What to keep in mind

Search Engine Optimization does not mean that we have to make our website keeping search engines in mind but actually we should first establish our website Goals and then we should think about customer’s ease of usability, satisfaction and appreciation. While doing all this we should put the data and design in such a way that Search Engines also appreciate our website.

These all things leads to a good website design which will have a better ranking in search engines.

We can divide our website SEO work in certain separate divisions which can be handled separately:
